WebFeb 27, 2008 · This painting was found in Nag's Head, North Carolina in 1869, fifty-six years after Theodosia Burr Alston was lost at sea. It had a tradition of having been salvaged from an abandoned ship during the War of 1812. The sitter and artist are both unidentified. SEE: Richard N.
